Facts: VMI beat Robert Morris 40-13 in the only meeting in 2007. The Colonials, 5-6 a year ago, have 18 starters returning and are picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference. VMI has won its past four openers.

Liberty

Facts: First meeting between the teams. The Flames, who play in the Football Championship Subdivision, are 0-5 against Big East teams. The Mountaineers were 9-4 last year under former VMI coach Bill Stewart.

Virginia State

Facts: This is the Virginia Lottery Labor Day Classic. VSU is Division II. Norfolk State is Football Championship Subdivision. VSU opened last Saturday with a 37-7 win at Livingstone, where Trojan Antwain Lyle rushed for 145 yards and two TDs.

N.C. Central

at Hampton

Facts: Hampton and NCCU are former CIAA foes but haven't met in football since 1992. A collarbone injury has shelved Eagles WR Corey Harris for the season.

Chowan at Old Dominion

Records: Season opener
Facts: Old Dominion is playing its first football game since 1940. Chowan, a Division II member of the CIAA, had six turnovers in a 36-21 loss to Albany State in its opener.

King's College at

Randolph-Macon

Records: Season opener
Facts: Despite finishing 3-7 last season, King's College defeated ODAC champion Randolph-Macon 34-13 in the opening game of the season. R-MC went 4-2, 6-5 and won the crown on a tiebreaker. The Yellow Jackets are 3-2 in their past five openers.

N.C. Wesleyan at

Hampden-Sydney

Records: Season opener
Facts: Hampden-Sydney won 33-23 last year in the inaugural meeting between the teams. The Tigers are entering their 115th season of football, while N.C. Wesleyan is entering its sixth. The Tigers were picked to finish first in the ODAC.
