Today is a prime opportunity for VMI to get its first winning streak since 2005, when it beat Liberty then Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers' only wins this season are against Division II North Greenville and Savannah State, an independent Football Championship Subdivision team that is now 1-6. But Charleston Southern lost its past two conference games -- Gardner-Webb and Liberty -- by seven points each.

Radio: WHOV (88.1), Hampton
Records: Hampton 2-3 MEAC, 3-4;
Winston-Salem State 1-5, 1-6
Facts: In theory, this should be an easy one for the Pirates. But given that Hampton allows 22.4 points and more than 300 yards per game, one never knows. Without a big effort from RB LaMarcus Coker (98.7 ypg, five TDs), the Pirates will struggle to control the ball. WSSU broke a six-game losing streak with last week's 16-10 victory over Bethune-Cookman.

The Panthers will rely on defense in general and LB Hurley Hemphill (78 tackles, third in the CIAA) in particular. ECSU returned two blocked punts for touchdowns last week against St. Paul's.

B owie State at Virginia State

Records: Virginia State 2-3 CIAA, 5-4;
Bowie State 5-1, 6-3
Facts: The Trojans can do archrival Virginia Union a significant favor by winning and knocking the Bulldogs out of a tie for first place in the CIAA East. VSU's chances will improve if it plays disciplined football. The Trojans are the most penalized team in the league (63 for 503 yards). Bowie State leads the league in rushing defense (41.7 ypg) and total defense (217.9 ypg).

R andolph-Macon at Guilford

Where: Armfield Athletic Center (cap. 2,200), Greensboro, N.C.
When: 1 p.m.

Tickets: $5

On the air: Internet -- streamed live at http://www.guilford.edu/athletics; radio --1430 (WHAN), Ashland, 12:30
Records: Randolph-Macon 3-0 ODAC, 5-2;
Guilford 0-3, 1-6
Facts: R-MC is coming off its bye week. R-MC sophomore Joe Pricone was named ODAC defensive player of the week for Oct. 18 after recording 5 tackles, a sack, an interception and a pass break up in R-MC's 19-0 win over Emory & Henry. It was R-MC's first shutout since 1999. The Yellow Jackets have won five straight. Guilford hasn't had a competitive conference game this season. Out of the 113 points they've scored this season, 48 came in a victory over Southern Virginia. That makes their 16.1 points per game this season a misleading statistic. Omitting that game, Guilford's offense has averaged less than 11 points per game.
