NSU cruises to victory

NORFOLK -- DeAngelo Branche rushed for three touchdowns and Dennis Brown threw two scoring passes to Chris Bell as Norfolk State routed Bethune-Cookman 40-14 yesterday.
Branche had 106 yards on 20 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 1, 3 and 1 yards for the Spartans (1-1 MEAC 2-2).
Brown had a career-high 270 yards on 16-of-28 passing with one interception, while Bell's 213 yards receiving on nine catches was also a career high. The pair connected on touchdown passes of 62 and 26 yards.
The win was Norfolk State's most lopsided in the 20-game series.
Johnathan Moment scored on two 1-yard runs for the Wildcats (0-2, 0-3) to cut the Spartans' lead to 23-14 at halftime.
Norfolk State scored twice in 27 seconds in the third quarter. After Bell's second touchdown, Terrell Whitehead had a 57-yard interception return to set up Branche's last score.
Randolph-Macon 31, Catholic 21
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Austin Faulkner completed 14 of 20 passes for 156 yards and rushed for a TD in leading Randolph-Macon over Catholic (0-1 ODAC, 0-4).
Vance Hendren ran for a 9-yard score for the Yellow Jackets (1-0, 2-2), and Jemehl Williams returnd an interception 14 yards for a touchdown. Josh Storm scored on a 26-yard field goal to put R-MC up 10-7 heading into the second quarter.
Virginia Union 45, Chowan 27
Cheston Hickman was 11 of 15 passing for 139 yards and three touchdowns, one running, as Virginia Union cruised past Chowan (0-2 CIAA, 0-5).
Hickman got things started running in a 2-yard score for the Panthers (2-0, 3-2). He also connected with Arnold White on a 4-yard TD, and with Yanaton Houston for a 15-yard touchdown.

AVERETT 14, WASHINGTON AND LEE 10: The Cougars (2-1) held the host Generals (1-3) to zero rushing yards on 15 carries in the second half and picked off three passes -- including one by Frederick Reid with less than two minutes remaining -- to seal the victory.
BRIDGEWATER 39, LYCOMING 29: Colin Dwyer was 15 of 29 for 178 yards and two touchdowns and the Eagles (3-1) held off the visiting Warriors (1-2) despite five turnovers.
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON-FLORHAM 49, APPRENTICE 30: Phil Caralla was 14 of 25 for a season-high 232 yards and two touchdowns, but the Builders fell to the host Devils.
EMORY & HENRY 28, METHODIST 3: Jazmenn Gaston's interception in the first quarter led to a 29-yard scoring run by Caleb Jennings, and the visiting Wasps cruised past the Monarchs.
LAMBUTH 60, U.VA.-WISE 20: Brad Robbins completed 28 of 49 passes for 335 yards and two TDs, but the Highland Cavaliers (2-3) couldn't hold off the host Eagles.
WILKES 24, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 17: T.J. Foster had five catches for 154 yards, including a 59-yard score, but the Captains (1-2) fell to the visiting Colonels (3-0).
FERRUM 28, SOUTHERN VIRGINIA 21: Matt Dobson was 4 for 12 passing with two TDs and 127 yards, and also had 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries as the Panthers (2-1) held off the host Knights (0-5).
JOHNSON C. SMITH 24, SAINT PAUL'S 20: The Tigers (0-2 CIAA, 1-3) pulled ahead in the fourth quarter oon Deshaw Edwards' 4-yard scoring run, but couldn't hang on, falling to the host Golden Bulls (1-1, 2-3).
