QUICK KICKS Score: Duke 28, Virginia 17 For starters: Duke dominated early, and the Cavs had only 1 yard of offense in the first quarter. But the Blue Devils couldn't convert for touchdowns inside the red zone. Turning point: When Jameel Sewell fumbled the ball on his 7-yard line, and it was returned for a Duke touchdown, it became clear that even in an eight-point game, Virginia was not going to make a comeback. Star of the game: The defensive line, but specifically Nate Collins, played a strong game, shutting down Duke's attempts at running the ball and constantly applying pressure to Thaddeus Lewis. U.Va.'s Zane Parr remarked afterward that it seemed that Lewis was holding the ball too long, which led to the six times he was sacked. John-Kevin Dolce also excelled in the pass-rush role. Big picture: As Al Groh continues to draw the ire of fans, it's going to take a remarkable turnaround for him to stay in place through the 2010 season. Go figure: 0 -- rushing attempts for Jameel Sewell, a quarterback known for his footwork and scrambling ability. Next: Virginia plays at Miami next week. The game time will be announced by the ACC this afternoon.

D -- FG Snyderwine 44. Drive: 11 plays, 60 yards, 5:33. Key play: On third and 1 from the 49, QB Thaddeus Lewis notices that the U.Va. defensive line isn't set, and quickly calls a sneak up the middle to get the first down.
D -- FG Snyderwine 28. Drive: 13 plays, 76 yards, 5:26. Key play: Two consecutive third-and-1 plays were converted by Duke as their offensive line pushed aside U.Va. tacklers and allowed Jay Hollingsworth to run left for the first down.
Second QuarterD -- FG Snyderwine 24. Drive: 6 plays, 5 yards, 2:32. Key play: U.Va. had the third-down stop, but a helmet-to-helmet hit by John-Kevin Dolce on the quarterback kept alive the drive, allowing the Blue Devils to take a 9-0 lead.
U.Va. -- FG Randolph 33. Drive: 11 plays, 55 yards, 3:04. Key play: Jameel Sewell leaves with an injury after being hit as he throws for a first down. Marc Verica was able to lead the team into field-goal range for its first points of the game.
Third QuarterU.Va. -- Sewell 1 run (Jarrett kick). Drive: 8 plays, 66 yards, 3:22. Key play: There was confusion at the line, but Rashawn Jackson was able to dodge Duke's tacklers and create a 16-yard gain that put the Hoos inside the red zone for the game's first touchdown.
Fourth QuarterD -- FG Snyderwine 25. Drive: 8 plays, 58 yards, 2:55. Key play: Duke connects long for the first time in a while as Donovan Varner collects a 32-yard completion. The Blue Devils again leave the red zone without a touchdown to show for it.
U.Va. -- Torchia 19 pass from Sewell (Jarrett kick). Drive: 8 plays, 66 yards, 3:22. Key play: Joe Torchia hasn't always had the best success pulling the ball in, but on a fourth-and-1 play that was critical to Virginia's chances at victory, Sewell rolled out and delivered a strike that Torchia caught to extend the drive.
D -- Vernon 42 pass from Lewis (conversion failed). Drive: 5 plays, 67 yards, 1:51. Key play: On a third down with the game almost wrapped up, Lewis has one more bullet left for the Cavs. He throws a touchdown pass, but misses on a two-point conversion.
D -- FG Snyderwine 43. Drive: 4 plays, 4 yards, 1:50. Key play: With the clock running out and an eight-point lead, Duke opts not to punt the ball but rather let its kicker try a field goal to finish off the Cavs. Snyderwine succeeds.
