Notable : Coming off losses to Georgia Tech and North Carolina, the Hokies are trying to avoid losing three consecutive games for the first time since 2003. They have had a three-game losing streak in just two other seasons, 1997 and 2002, since their streak of bowl-game appearances began in 1993. . . . The Hokies were 15.5-point favorites last Thursday against North Carolina and are favored by 13 over East Carolina. Just twice during the bowl streak have they lost back-to-back games in which they were favored by double digits, in 2001 and 2002. . . . This is Tech's first road game against a team from outside the six major conferences since 2002, when it won 30-0 at Western Michigan. . . . In 2007, East Carolina and Tech began a nine-year series that has them playing four games in Blacksburg and Greenville and one, last year, in Charlotte, N.C., which the Pirates won 27-22. . . . The Hokies last visited Greenville in 2000, when they won 45-28 in the last game the teams played before 2007.
