Lawyer calls for Congress to investigate BCS system

WASHINGTON — A lawyer for a college athletic conference says it would be in the public’s interest if the government investigated the system that determines college football’s No. 1 team.

Barry Brett, who represents the Mountain West Conference, is raising the possibility of antitrust violations in the Bowl Championship Series. He’s testifying Tuesday before a Senate subcommittee.

Utah, which is in the Mountain West, was bypassed for last year’s national championship despite going undefeated in the regular season. The title game pitted Florida against Oklahoma — each with one loss.

Under the BCS, some conferences get automatic bids to participate, but the Mountain West and others do not. Critics argue that this system is designed to reduce competition, contrary to antitrust laws.

What a waste of time. They should be investigating a group like acorn, not a group of football players.

Good thing we’ve fixed health care, the national deficit, and stopped domestic spying. Now we can concentrate on the national threat that is improperly ranked college sports teams.

Idiots.

This proposal, if adopted, represents a horrendous waste of time and misappropriate of money at a time when Congress and the Administration have not identified any affordable solutions to the myriad financial crises that afflict the United States.

Everybody got a big yuk-yuk when the House “investigated” this.  Keeping America safe from unworthy national champions.  What more can we ask?
