SLIDESHOW Richmond vs. James Madison |
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Ben Keating caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and Richmond rallied to beat James Madison 21-17 on Saturday.
Richmond, the defending Football Championship Subdivision champion, has won 15 straight since losing to James Madison 38-31 on Oct. 11, 2008.
Keating scored all three touchdowns for Richmond (5-0, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association). He had a pair of 1-yard runs in the first quarter, his only carries of the game, then caught a 6-yard pass from Eric Ward with 7:20 to play in the game.
After Richmond’s go-ahead score the Dukes drove 57 yards to the Spiders’ 6-yard-line, but quarterback Justin Thorpe fumbled the ball. The Spiders’ Eric McBride recovered with 58 seconds remaining.
The Dukes (2-3, 0-2) took a 17-14 lead on a 15-yard return of a blocked punt in the second quarter by Corwin Acker.

Uh, news_u_can_use, that’s not true. All of the stories listed for college football games in “Breaking News Center” on the TD website are AP stories - even the VT-BC story. If you read the actual paper or even navigated into the TD website beyond the front page, you’d find the story and photographs by TD staff.
@shwills: I am surprised you did not already know the only college team in the Commonwealth is from Blacksburg. This UR-JMU game was covered not by a Times Dispatch staff writer, but the AP. That little story they carried will also appear in papers all over. The RTD had to send more reporters to cover VPI and could not spare any coverage for the local team.
I love it when people don’t want to give the winning team any credit for a win. Bottom line is that the Spiders did something right or they would not have more points than the Dukes. Good teams capitalize on mistakes.
not so much a great performance by Richmond as a series of blunders (multiple interceptions, fumble on what could have been the game winning play) that cost JMU the game. not to mention the better quarterback out of the second half with a foot injury. Considering how big this game was for both Richonnd and JMU fans, and the number of alumni and interest from both sides, this is a pretty pathetic write up.
Shazam….
