The Kingsmill Resort’s seven-year relationship with the LPGA and its 29-year relationship with professional golf has ended.

Anheuser-Busch vice-president Dan McHugh announced today that the $2.2 million Michelob Ultra Open will not return to Kingsmill in 2010. McHugh, who called the decision “very, very difficult,“ said Anheuser-Busch believes its Michelob Ultra Open brand will be better promoted by spreading sponsorship dollars over the entirety of the LPGA schedule.

The Michelob Ultra Open often was viewed by players as the “fifth major.“

Kingsmill played host to a PGA event before bringing the LPGA to Williamsburg for the first time in 2003.

Don’t hold your heads down… The Eastern League will be coming to Richmond. Well, for 2 years anyways. They’ll be gone once they realize this town can’t get their act together on a new stadium without studying and protesting it to death.

Now the LPGA has left Virginia. The players and well as the fans loved this event ane Williamsburg/Kingsmill was the perfect location.  What’s else will Virginia lose. Better yet, what is left??????

Let’s see, 2009 a year for change.

LPGA, viewed by players as the “fifth major.“ True and very SAD!

Indy League, out of our league!

NHRA, the countries largest sanctioning body for automobile racing. Leaving for the second time in 10 years, its gotta make you think people.

Look at the track Charlotte built just last year and it was packed this past weekend! They even had 4 cars abreast, gotta think out the box sometimes and Virginia “Richmond” has a proven record of not being able to get out of its own way!

I say someone call ol Bruton Smith and rub some elbows, ask for some advice.

No BEG for advice and money.

So what’s next to leave? We can only hope the Horse racing, call ol Bruton please it would be a great venue for a new NHRA Dragstip and more!

“Virginia is for LOSERS” tees will be available at all your state run rest areas, if they open up again!

And the only thing the good folks in Richmond could discuss was Baseball for the first 6 months of the year. What a JOKE!

This is a real shame.  The event was well liked by the players and it was good for Virginia.  This is what happens when a large foreign owned corporation buys a local business like Anheuser-Busch.  The same thing is going to happen when we loose Ukrops.  There will be no more Ukrops Christmas parade or Ukrops 10-K.  I doubt if you’ll ever see the Kroger Christmas Parade or the Harris Teeter 10-K in Richmond.  Our area is diminished every time we loose a big sporting event like this.  This is really a shame.
