Saints fall in first round

LYNCHBURG -- No. 4 seed Liberty Christian scored twice in the second half, pulling away to a 3-0 victory over No. 13 St. Christopher's in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools, Division I boys soccer tournament.

Seth Dorman connected in the first half, and Abass Ayembillah and Soho Choi scored in the second half to seal the victory. Brenden Doyle of St. Christopher's and Gorgi Branov (Liberty Christian) each made five saves.

Liberty Christian will play No. 5 seed Benedictine, a 4-1 winner over St. Anne's-Belfield, on Monday at Liberty.

In other VISAA first round matches:

  • Sixth-seeded Collegiate defeated No. 11 Potomac in the opening round of the VISAA Div. I tournament. In the 49th minute, Michael Howard scored the game's only goal, assisted by Colscon Wiley and Michael Blair. Andrew Franz turned away two shots as Collegiate's goaltender.
  • Sam Farhi scored twice in leading Benedictine past St. Anne's Belfield in the first round of the VISSA state tournament.
