James River cruises to quarterfinal victory

Maddie New made 31 assists to help third-seeded James River defeat No. 6 L.C. Bird 3-0 in the Dominion District boys volleyball quarterfinals yesterday.
Drew McLean added eight kills, three digs, a block and an assist for the Rapids.
Andy Putnam totaled 16 digs for the Skyhawks, and Matt Bienvenu contributed four blocks, 12 assists and three digs.

No. 3 Prince George swept No. 2 Matoaca to advance to tomorrow's Central District final. For the Royals, Jorden Lykes led with 17 kills, Brittany Johnson had 11 kills, six digs and four aces, Danielle Perry had 17 assists, and Sarah Ham added six kills, four digs and two aces.

LIS quarterfinal
St. Anne's-Belfield's offense was too much for St. Gertrude as the Saints pulled out a 3-1 win over the Gators.
The Gators were led by Haley Metcalfe's four aces, 12 kills and six digs. Sarah Green chipped in nine digs and Sarah-Davis D'LaLonde added three aces, and three blocks.
After dropping the first game to the Saints 29-27, St. Gertrude tied the match at 1 with a 25-23 win. However, after a close 25-22 Game 3, the Saints put the match away with the 25-16 Game 4 victory to advance to the next round.
