Deep Run claims Colonial District

Alex Haley made 33 assists and three aces and top-seeded Deep Run held off No. 2 Maggie Walker GS 3-1 yesterday to capture the Colonial District championship.

Ross Madden totaled 18 kills and four aces for the Wildcats, who will play Atlee in the regionals Monday. Garrett Short added 13 kills, 12 digs and nine blocks.

Matt Wilkinson registered 40 assists, two aces and two kills for the Green Dragons, who will face Highland Springs at the regionals. Parker Kirwan had 16 kills, two blocks and an ace and Walter Coethel made 10 kills and 12 digs.

Central District

The top-seeded Knights claimed the title by defeating No. 2 Matoaca on the Chiefs home court. Matoaca's Ryan Clapman had nine kills.

For the Knights, Zach Seymour led with 14 kills, 11 assists and 11 blocks; Matt Knickerbocker had 13 blocks and three kills and Jake McCall added six kills.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL





Southside District

Powhatan claimed its 6th straight district championship with a victory over Bluestone. Brianna Barton had seven aces and 18 digs for the Indians. Kayla Crawford had four aces, 10 aces and 10 digs, Kristen Myers registered 10 kills and 10 digs and Sierra Strathy added six blocks.

Powhatan hosts Courtland on Tuesday in a regional quarterfinal match.

LIS semifnals

Despite Audrey Fain's 18 kills, seven digs, four blocks and four aces, St. Catherine's fell to Covenant 3-1 Wednesday night. Catharine Cain added 11 digs and 15 assists for the Saints, Audra Cote made 13 assists and Jane McGehee totaled 11 digs.

VCC finals

Zach Marino and Heath Owen scored two goals apiece and Steward defeated Richmond Christian 7-1 to win the championship. Zack Poston netted a goal for the Warriors, and Aaron Egland stopped nine shots.
