Williamson, Pulley best in Central
Thomas Dale's Eric Williamson ran a 16:45 yesterday to help the Knights win the Central District boys cross country title over the upper course at Pocahontas State Park.
It was the 18th consecutive in individual title for a Knights runner.
Thomas Dale also won the team title, upsetting regular-season champion Matoaca. Coach-of-the-year honors went to Thomas Dale's Bob Gulley.
In the girls race, Colonial Heights' Catherine Pulley ran a 19:19 to win the individual title.
Matoaca won the girls team title, led by fifth-place finisher Emily Brock. The Warriors upset Colonial Heights, which won the regular season. Matoaca's Noland Shigley was named coach of the year.

Atlee's Ben Dejarnette and Lee-Davis' Stephanie Cario were named Capital District runners of the year, and each had first-place finishes as their schools won team titles.
Dejarnette ran the course at Pole Green Park in 15:54, and Cario finished in 19:37.

WILLIAMSBURG -- Zach Garcia finished the course in 17:06, and four teammates were right behind him, leading Mathews to a first-place finish at Eastern State Hospital.
Mathews' Jamie Vanemmerick was second (17:32), followed by Pat Sopko (17:55), Russell Reed (18:01) and Paul Crook (18:35).
In the girls competition, five teammates paced Middlesex to a first-place finish. Melisa Hall led the pack with a 20:17, followed by Rebecca Walker (21:43), Stephanie Hutton (21:48), Olivia Cloud (22:14) and Lindsay Harrow (22:15).

Julie Robertson scored the only goal of the Central District championship game on a breakaway with four and a half minutes left, giving Thomas Dale a 1-0 win over Prince George.
Thomas Dale (15-0) had 25 penalty corners, forcing the Royals into a defensive battle. Goalie Molly Slusser had 10 saves, and the Royals had 16 defensive stops. Robertson was the named the district player of the year.
