Cosby claimed the Dominion District girls volleyball title last night by beating James River in four games.
For Cosby, Jessica Melhorn had 13 kills and 16 digs, Morgan Dowdy had nine kills and 19 digs, and Abigayle Holt added 38 assists. James River's Carol Pyskowski had 12 kills and five blocks, Grace Jefferson had six kills and 10 digs, and Julia Cushman added 37 assists.

Colonial District
Meghan Meleski made 37 assists, 10 digs and two blocks as Mills Godwin won its third straight title with a 3-1 win over Deep Run. Maggie Murphy registered 17 kills, 23 digs and two aces and Savannah Colligon added 12 kills for the Eagles, who will play in the regionals Monday at Atlee.
Ashley Dintaman totaled 23 assists, 17 digs and a block for the Wildcats, who will host Hanover. Mallory Woolridge finished with 13 kills, 17 digs and five blocks and Chaney LaReau contributed 12 kills and 18 digs.

Southside District
Powhatan claimed its sixth straight district championship with a victory over Bluestone. Brianna Barton had seven aces and 18 digs for the Indians.
Kayla Crawford had four aces, 10 aces and 10 digs, Kristen Myers registered 10 kills and 10 digs and Sierra Strathy added six blocks. Powhatan hosts Courtland on Tuesday in a regional quarterfinal match.

Despite Audrey Fain's 18 kills, seven digs, four blocks and four aces, St. Catherine's fell to Covenant 3-1 Wednesday night. Catharine Cain added 11 digs and 15 assists for the Saints, Audra Cote made 13 assists and Jane McGehee totaled 11 digs.

VCC final
Zach Marino and Heath Owen scored two goals apiece, and Steward defeated Richmond Christian 7-1 to win the championship. Zack Poston netted a goal for the Warriors, and Aaron Egland stopped nine shots.
