Godwin’s Parker advances to Group AAA tennis final

Central Region boys tennis champion Kyle Parker of Mills Godwin advanced to the final of the Virginia High School League Group AAA singles tournament with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Sidarth Balaji of Fairfax today at the Fairfax Racquet Club.

Parker was the only region player to win in singles. Kiersten Pappas of Loudoun Valley defeated girls champion Emily Hahn of Douglas Freeman 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Faby Chaillo of George Marshall eliminated Yasmin Fotovat of Atlee 6-1, 6-0. Central boys runner-up Hunter Koontz of Deep Run lost to Justin Shane of J.E.B. Stuart 6-4, 6-1.

In girls doubles semifinals, the Douglas Freeman team of Hahn and Elena Rusu defeated Chaillo and Ana Dominguez 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4. They broke George Marshall's service to win the match.

Parker will play in tomorrow's final at Jefferson District Park at 9 a.m. The girls doubles final is schedule to begin at 1 p.m.

In boys doubles, Parker and Kevin McMillen lost to Balaji and Jason Luu 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (3) and Shane and partner Daniel Santos defeated Koontz and Evan Charles 6-2, 6-4.
