Boys Athlete of the Week: J’Quan Martin, L.C. Bird
What he did: Martin, a 6-3 senior forward, has been a steady contributor to the sixth-ranked Skyhawks after missing the first two games of the season. He has scored in double figures in every game, including 26 against Thomas Dale and 20 vs. Dominion District foe Manchester last week. He also had nine rebounds and three blocks against Manchester and 14 rebounds against Dale. He continued his superlative play Wednesday night with 35 points and 15 rebounds in a victory over Huguenot. Age: 17 Three words your friends would use to describe you: "Funny, cool, laid back." Strengths: "Leadership, good inside presence, rebounding." I'm working to improve: "Shooting, ballhandling and defense." Toughest opponent other than yourself: "Coach [Chuck] Thomas.
