Highland Springs DT headed to Virginia Tech
Two-time All-Metro defensive lineman Derrick Hopkins of Highland Springs will continue his college football career at Virginia Tech.
Hopkins, a 6-1, 310-pound junior announced his commitment to the Hokies yesterday. He had 20 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, five sacks, two interceptions and forced three fumbles last fall.
His choice was no surprise. His brother, Antoine, is at Virginia Tech.
"It's the best place for me. I feel real comfortable there," Hopkins said. "I'll be getting to play with my brother. Not too many people get to do that."
Highland Springs has sent a number of quality players to Virginia Tech. Hopkins said that number "influenced" his decision.
He can sign a national letter of intent Feb. 3, 2010. - Arthur Utley
