The population of Dinwiddie County is listed at 24,533. Apparently the majority are fast pass receivers.

Or so it must seem to the Dinwiddie High School Generals' bedraggled football foes.

At the Central Region's most southern outpost, mega-star quarterback Adam Morgan has more targets than the firing range at nearby Fort Pickett.

"I've got confidence in them, and they have confidence in me that I can make the throws," Morgan said. "We've got an arsenal."

Referring to his plethora of receivers as his "weapons of mass reception," coach Billy Mills deflects kudos to receivers coach Adam Fischer.

Mills said all the receivers "have different roles but are capable of making the big catch."

Fifteen Generals have made catches this season. Nine have touchdown grabs.

Morgan found seven receivers in the Generals' 42-21 win over Liberty-Bealeton in the Group AAA, Division 5 semifinals.

He'll continue to try to spread the wealth Saturday when the 12-1 Generals meet Phoebus for the state crown at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium.

Dinwiddie uses letters of the alphabet to identify receivers. Here's Morgan's assessment of his catching corps:

H (inside left), Sam Haskins: "Sam brings power to our spread [formation]. He's a great blocker who makes plays with his height."

X (outside left), Jerrell White: "Seems like Jerrell has been with me forever. He's the go-to guy. If we need a spark, we go to him."

Y (inside right), Quintaze Jackson: "Quintaze has extreme agility. He's so speedy and quick. He makes big plays when he has to."

Z (outside right), Terron Adams: "If we need something done, Terron is willing to step up and do it. He's very versatile."

There is plenty of respect for their ability. In a vote of coaches, Haskins, White and Jackson made all-Central District, and Adams was second team.

The aerial success has come despite the loss of DeQuan Coles, an all-state receiver (14 TDs) in 2007, now on scholarship at The Citadel.

"You never fully replace an athlete like DeQuan, but Terron and Quintaze have stepped up and filled the role well," Mills said.

From a shotgun formation, Morgan often looks deep, but his options include running backs Mark Beville and Chris Hall on shorter patterns.

A four-year starter, Morgan has broken several state career passing records, among them:

  • 654 completions, breaking the mark of 609 set by Casey Turner who finished at Great Bridge High last year;
  • 111 touchdowns, breaking the mark of 106 set by Vic Hall, who finished at Gretna last year;
  • 8,788 yards, breaking Hall's mark of 8,731.
  • While Morgan was upgrading his records against Liberty Saturday, Hall, normally a defensive back, was playing quarterback for the University of Virginia in its loss to Virginia Tech.

    Morgan, whose college suitors include Georgia Southern, insists he is an equal opportunity passer and that all routes -- pass routes, that is -- in Dinwiddie lead to the end zone.

    "Whoever is open," Morgan said, "gets the ball."
