Football: Clover Hill 23, James River 20
Joel Caleb scored on defense and offense in the fourth quarter to lead the Cavaliers to a comeback win over the Rapids in a Dominion District clash.
Caleb had a had in all but one point for Clover Hill (2-1, 3-1), totaling 215 all purpose yards (109 rushing, 106 passing). His performance overshadowed a 3-touchdown night for Matt Brooks that propelled James River (1-2, 2-2) to a 20-8 lead entering the last quarter.
Caleb intercepted a pass on a fake punt and returned it 47 yards for a touchdown and then ran in for two points to cut the lead to 20-16. With 3:31 to go in the game, Caleb found Tim Thaniel for a 28-yard touchdown strike to give the Cavaliers the lead.
James River marched to the Clover Hill 30-yard line, but their chance to win the game was snuffed out by a Derek Wells interception with 30 seconds left. Wells also had 7 tackles in the game.
Kevon White led James River on the ground with 69 yards and Calvin Jefferson had 68 yard to lead the offense through the air. Rapids' quarterback Joshua Wells finished 9 of 18 for 115 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
