No. 3 Bird 21, No. 10 Monacan 7

Dontae Jefferson passed for one touchdown and ran for another as L.C. Bird, ranked third in the T-D Top 10 Poll, knocked off No. 10 Monacan 21-7 in a Dominion District showdown last night.

Jefferson passed 22 yards to Josh Coffey to open the scoring in the second quarter, and a 6-yard run by Jerry Brown (16 carries, 93 yards) expanded the lead to 14-0 for the Skyhawks (6-0, 7-1) in the third period.

The Chiefs (3-2, 5-2) finally broke through when Logan Staib found Garett Patterson from 47 yards out with 7:20 left.

But Bird responded with a 13-play drive that culminated with Patterson's sneak on fourth and goal from about an inch away.

The Skyhawks produced 319 yards of offense, 222 coming on the ground. Kenyon Lewis led the way with 29 carries for 124 yards.

James Santiago totaled 12 tackles, including two for loss, and broke up two passes. Anthony Harris contributed 10 tackles and intercepted a pass.

Tre Johnson made his nine carries count for 170 yards and three touchdowns in top-ranked Varina's rout of Capital District rival Armstrong.

Johnson ran for 53-, 58and 18-yard scores as Varina (4-0, 8-0) racked up 459 yards, 383 on the ground.

The Blue Devils held Armstrong (0-4, 2-6) to just 59 total yards.

Addonis Robinson led the Varina's defense with five tackles and two sacks.

Quarterback Kenmanze Edmonds had nine completions for 260 yards and threw for all five touchdowns as visiting Highland Springs defeated Atlee (0-3, 1-6) in the Capital District.

Clarence Hill hauled in TD passes covering 77 and 57 yards for the Springers (4-0, 4-3), ranked seventh in the T-D Top 10 Poll.

The Raiders scored on a 56-yard pass from Dylan Garthwright to Micah Spiers. Josh Doggett paced the defense with 20 tackles, seven assists and a sack.

No. 9 Clover Hill 40, James River 20

Josh Bailey accounted for five touchdowns in leading No. 9 Clover Hill over James River in the Dominion District.

Bailey completed 11 of 16 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns, and had 15 carries for 81 yards and a TD. He connected with Chris Smith for two 15-yard scores, and An drew Oliver for 41and 3-yard touchdowns.

Smith (five catches, 77 yards) also made a 100-yard interception for the Cavaliers (4-2, 6-2) just as the clock ran out.

Brothers Joshua and Jesse Wells paced the Rapids (2-3, 2-5) on offense. Jesse scored on a 29-yard pass from Joshua to put James River on the board before the half, and he ran 1 yard for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Joshua went 8 for 14 with two interceptions for 151 yards and ran for a 9-yard TD. He also had 13 carries for 24 yards, Matt Brooks had 13 carries for 62 yards, and Cole Ransom had four catches for 63 yards for the Rapids.

Midlothian 32, Huguenot 30

Josiah Shelton scrambled for a 2-yard go-ahead touchdown with just 31 seconds remaining to lift the Trojans over the Falcons in the Dominion District. Shelton finished with 16 carries for 84 yards.

Midlothian fell behind early in the first quarter when Huguenot's LaShaun Turner (13 carries, 101 yards) scampered 10 yards for his first of two touchdowns.

Minutes later, Ben Osen responded with a 35-yard TD run, setting the tone for the Trojans (2-3, 2-5).

Huguenot (0-6, 1-6) took a 14-11 lead into halftime when Willie Harding connected with Joshua Jefferson on a 41-yard pass with no time left on the clock, but the Falcons were unable to hold on.

Douglas Freeman 42, J.R. Tucker 27

Sam Jacobson threw four touchdowns passes to lead the Rebels past the Tigers (1-3, 1-6) in the Colonial District .

Jacobson found Monty Smalley for two touchdowns in the second quarter to put Douglas Freeman (2-2, 5-2) in control. Robby Blanchard's 49-yard touchdown run also highlighted a 21-point second quarter for the Rebels. Blanchard finished with 113 yards on 18 carries.

Jacobson tossed an 18-yard strike to Andrew Mauck (four receptions, 64 yards) in the third quarter to seal the win.

Jared Bennett ran for two scores and threw for 156 yards to lead the Tigers, Montre Carr ran for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Tucker Walton ran for two second-half touchdowns as Lee-Davis held off Henrico for a Capital District victory.

Brandon Angus got things started for the Confederates (2-1, 3-4). He kicked a 37-yard field goal and followed with a 67-yard interception return. Kyle Worley connected with Will Burton (eight carries, 62 yards) for a 9-yard score in the second quarter.

Walton (26 carries, 174 yards) then took over in the second half, and the Confederates forced three turnovers.

DeQuan Parish led Henrico with 18 carries for 86 yards, and Raquaam Smith had nine carries for 55 yards. Daquan Martin put the Warriors (1-2, 2-5) on the board, running for an 8-yard score, and Kelvin Otey (nine carries, 4 yards) ran for a 1-yard TD.

DINWIDDIE -- Adam Morgan completed just nine passes but four went for touchdowns in Dinwiddie's Central District victory over Petersburg.

Morgan (9 of 20, 144 yards) took the Generals 68 yards in six plays, ending the drive with a 59-yard pass to Jerrell White with 9:49 left in the first quarter.

Mark Beville rushed for a touchdown with 1:57 remaining, then Dinwiddie (4-0, 6-1) picked up a safety on a wild snap out of the end zone.

Raliek Green rushed for a pair of touchdowns, and Joshua Allen carried 12 times for 115 yards for Petersburg (1-3, 4-3).

HOPEWELL -- Desmond Coble and Javonn Worsham each scored two touchdowns to lift No. 4 Meadowbrook over Hopewell in the Central District.

Coble (6 of 12, 98 yards) ran for 30and 10-yard scores in the second quarter, and Worsham ran for two 3-yard touchdowns for the Monarchs (3-1, 6-1). Coble also rushed for 112 yards and 12 attempts.

Rashad Tims avoided the shutout for the Blue Devils (1-3, 2-5), running for a 4-yard TD in the fourth quarter. Tims finished with 30 carries for 107 yards.

PRINCE GEORGE -- Joshua Edwards recorded 206 yards on the ground, 115 through the air and scored two touchdowns, leading the Warriors over the Royals in the Central District.

DeCarlos Smith, David Goad and Cole Williams each added a score, and quarterback Dustin Clark threw for 199 yards for Matoaca (2-2, 3-4).

Nathan Page was 4 for 5 in extra-point attempts for the Warriors.

Quarterback Cody Engel connected with Brian Yates on a 17-yard TD pass, and Bran don Doyle scored on an 11-yard run for the Royals (3-4, 2-2).

Michael Johnson passed for four touchdowns, two of which came during a 30-point first-period eruption, to lead the Panthers.

Johnson completed 10 of 17 passes for 173 yards for Hermitage (4-0 Colonial, 5-2). Theron Norman and Matt Snead combined for seven receptions and three touchdowns.

Daryl Howell (seven tackles and a fumble recovery) and Curtis Grant (nine tackles and a fumble recovery) led the dominant Hermitage defense. The Vikings tumbled to 0-4, 0-7.

Tyler Henderson set a Manchester single-season passing record with 1,226 yards, and the Lancers blew past the Bulldogs (0-7) in the Dominion District.

Henderson totaled 207 yards passing with two TDs, including a 70-yarder to Willie Pugh for the first score of the game.

Antonio Brown rushed for 60 yards with three TDs, and David Wilburn and Brandon Chiles each added a score for the Lancers (5-2).

MATHEWS -- Lewis Redman hit Jamar Carter on a 26-yard touchdown pass late to lead King William past Mathews.

Carter racked up 109 yards rushing and 40 receiving, and Larry Johnson had three interceptions in the victory. Both teams move to 1-1 in the Tidewater District and 3-4 overall.

Tidewater's Thomas Morris had two touchdowns and added the extra point to account for all of his team's scoring.

EMPORIA -- Shawn Minor threw for two touchdowns (6 of 12 for 88 yards) and ran for another (six carries for 59 yards) in Powhatan's shutout of Southside District foe Greensville.

Landen Bradley had 160 yards on 27 carries and scored a touchdown for the Indians (3-0, 6-1). Josh Morris had eight tackles and recovered a fumble, and Vance Hendren (six tackles, two sacks) and Dustin Kingery (seven, three) totaled 13 tackles, five sacks and each forced a fumble.

Quarterback David Sloan led the way for the Eagles (1-2, 3-3) on 13-of-23 passing for 206 yards.

CHARLOTTE COURTHOUSE -- Tyler Carter trudged 49 yards down a cold and muddy field to open the scoring for Goochland in a James River District victory over Randolph-Henry.

Dustin Plummer ran 8 yards for a TD to add to Goochland's lead.

The first TD, and extra point, would prove enough, though, as the Bulldogs (2-0, 4-3) allowed Randolph-Henry (1-1, 2-5) to score just six points.

Jake McGee had 238 yards passing, threw for two touchdowns and intercepted a pass as Collegiate shut down Fork Union.

Teddy Gorrell had nine receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars (1-1 Prep League, 5-1).

Collegiate's defense, led by Hunter Broome, Michael van Reekum and Patrick Corrigan, held the Blue Devils (2-2, 3-5) to 75 offensive yards, minus 15 rushing and just 90 passing.

Shane Jones ran for two touchdowns to lead Christchurch over Trinity Episcopal in an Old Dominion Football Conference matchup.

Jones ran for 16and 9-yard scores (18 carries, 121 yards) for the Fighting Seahorses (2-0, 2-4), and Noble Cunningham grabbed a 35-yard pass from James Ford for another TD. Collin Brooke totaled 11 tackles.

Nick Almond helped the Titans (0-4, 2-6) avoid being shut out, scoring on a 24-yard pass from Will White in the fourth quarter. Johnny Hammond rushed nine times for 55 yards.

Aaron Roane tallied 135 yards on nine carries and ran for a touchdown for the Pointers (6-1).

Gary Leckie led the Tigers (0-7) with 27 carries for 86 yards.
