Football: West Point 44, Franklin 20
WEST POINT -- West Point's potent ground game propelled the Pointers to a nondistrict victory over the reigning Group A, Division 1 state champions. West Point coach John Fulks couldn't remember the last time West Point beat Franklin, and it's been a long, long time since the Pointers began a season 6-0.
Antonio Roane carried the ball 23 times for 168 yards and three touchdowns. Aaron Roane contributed 113 yards on 20 carries and caught a TD pass from Josh Ammons. Lavonte Brown added 75 yards on 15 carries. Jonas Goins booted a 32-yard field goal and five extra points.
West Point took control late in the first half and put the game away with 17 points in the fourth quarter.
The loss was Franklin's first this season after four victories. Melquan Mitchell rushed for 93 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown. Lavon Evans scored twice.
