Prep football: Petersburg 38, Halifax County 7

Petersburg High School quarterback Eric McGruder rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 187 yards and two scores to lead the Crimson Wave to a 38-7 victory over visiting Halifax County (0-1) last night.

McGruder hooked up with receiver Keith Johnson for touchdown passes of 75 and 55 yards in the first quarter. McGruder sandwiched scoring runs of 55 and 40 yards around a 29-yard touchdown run by DeMonte Gregory to give Petersburg (1-0) control of the game.

Gregory finished with 116 yards rushing and caught two passes for 52 yards.

The Crimson Wave's defense forced six turnovers.
