Football roundup: Rapids explode past Trojans; Warriors stop Colonials
James River scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second and third quarters to pull away from a 7-7 tie en route to a 35-13 victory over Midlothian last night.
James River used an overpowering ground game - 305 yards on 28 carries - to punish its Dominion District rival.
Quarterback Josh Wells led the parade with six carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Matt Brooks carried nine times for 79 yards and a score.
Wells' 21-yard scamper in the second period put James River (3-5, 3-7) ahead to stay. Cole Ransom's 20-yard run and a 63-yard fumble return by Austin Hersch sent the Rapids into intermission with a 28-7 advantage.
Quarterback Jimmy Krahe led the Trojans (2-6, 2-8) with 20 carries for 121 yards and a score.

MATOACA - The Warriors buried Colonial Heights beneath an avalanche of big plays.
Five long-distance touchdowns, four of which occurred during a 29-point first quarter, enabled Matoaca to improve to 4-3 in the Central District and 5-5 overall.
Ryan Shook and Josh Edwards did much of the damage for the winners. Edwards car ried five times for 100 yards and scored on bursts of 40 and 35 yards. Shook carried three times for 85 yards. He delivered a 67-yard scoring run in the first period and a 15-yarder in the second.
Colonial Heights slid to 0-7, 2-8.

Bailey broke the school's passing record with 1,939 yards (set record with 3,400) and set the record for most TD passes with 28 in a season, 43 in his career.

Chris Howard had 16 carries for 89 yards and ran for a 2-yard TD as top-seeded Blessed Sacrament Huguenot defeated No. 4 Hampton Christian in the VISSA Division III semifinals.
Deon Watts had nine carries for 71 yards and ran for a 34-yard score for the undefeated Knights (12-0), who totaled 306 offensive yards. Kendall Trainum had four catches for 41 yards and two carries for 20 yards, including an interception in the end zone. Trainum also tallied more than 100 yards in kickoff returns.
Keenan Perry led Hampton Christian (8-3) with eight carries for 118 yards. He started the game with a 75-yard TD run. But the Knights held Hampton Christian to just 221 yards of offense.
Blessed Sacrament will play No. 2 North Cross on Friday in the championship game at home at 7:30 p.m.
