Westfield win golf title

MONETA - The weather may have been perfect for golf, but Waterfront Country Club continued to beat up the participants in the Virginia High School League Group AAA tournament.

The survivors in yesterday's final round were first-round leader Westfield and Battlefield's Andrew Lister.

Westfield, paced by Wesley Liu's 72, shot 305-617, 11 strokes better than runner-up James Madison. Liu shared low score honors for the day with James Madison's Chris Wendell.

Lister carded 73 for a two-day aggregate of 4-over 148 and won the individual title by one stroke over Chris Valianos of Frank Cox (75-74). First-round leader Ji Soo Park of Chantilly struggled to a 7-over 79 yesterday and tied for third with Liu at 151.

Central Region champion Deep Run, paced by Chris O'Neill's 78 tied with Battlefield at 656. James River's Drew McLean posted a 77, but the other Rapids had a tough day, and they tied for last with Frank Cox.
