All-Metro girls soccer team
Allie Albright
School: Collegiate
Year: Senior
Position: Goalkeeper
The skinny: A six-year career as a starter in goal has come to an end. The Cougars were 105-14-4 during Albright's stay in the net. Opponents scored just 20 goals this season against the state runner-up Cougars. Despite playing in pain after missing half of last season with hip surgery, she was named to the all-LIS and all-state teams. She will continue in soccer at the University of Richmond.
What you didn't know: "I'm afraid of clowns."
Lindsay Booth
School: Atlee
Year: Senior
Position: Forward/midfield
The skinny: Gave the Raiders a formidable pair in the midfield with fellow senior Jordan Roseboro. Booth scored 17 goals this season and finished her career with 53 goals after moving up to varsity at the end of her freshman year. She was first-team all-district and all-region for the Central Region runner-up Raiders.
What you didn't know: "I hate being bored. I like filling my day with fun activities."
Marie Krider
School: Mills Godwin
Year: Junior
Position: Forward
The skinny: Delivered key goals and assists during the regular-season stretch run and in the postseason for the Eagles who wound us as state runners-up. She was first-team all-district and all-region.
What you didn't know: "I'm right handed, but I prefer to shoot with my left foot."
Erin Layne
School: Midlothian
Year: Junior
Position: Forward
The skinny: The high-scoring Trojan finished the year with 24 goals and 12 assists. She earned all-district, all-region and All-Metro accolades for the third year in a row. She shared Dominion District player of the year honors with Becca Wann.
What you didn't know : "I hate crunchy peanut butter."
Anne Lumpkin
School: Mills GodwinYear: Senior
Position: Midfield
The skinny: One of the few seniors on the Eagles' roster, Lumpkin had a hand in 36 goals this season. She scored 16 and assisted on 20. She was the Colonial District player of the year and was co-region player of the year. She made the All-Metro team all four years: second team as a freshman and first-team the past three years.
What you didn't know: "I have four pug dogs. Mia, Oscar, Stella and Brady."
Meredith Powroznik
School: Prince George
Year: Senior
Position: Midfield
The skinny: Named the Central District player of the year and to the All-Metro first team for the second time. She also earned both honors in 2007. She scored 20 goals and had 15 assists this year and was an all-region first-team choice. She will continue her career at Radford.
What you didn't know: "It took me six years to kill my first turkey."
Jordan Roseboro
School: Atlee
Year: Senior
Position: Midfield
The skinny: Known more for her offensive skills after moving into the Atlee zone as a sophomore, Roseboro shifted to defensive midfielder this year. She still scored 13 goals and finished her career with 51. She was the Capital District player of the year and a first-team all-region choice.
What you didn't know: "I drive 90 minutes to practice with my club team (McLean Freedom)."
Emily Tatum
School: Collegiate
Year: Senior
Position: Midfield
The skinny: Repeats as an All-Metro first teamer. She earned first-team all-LIS and all-VISSA honors, too. The Cougars' offense runs through Tatum, who is headed to Clemson. She can score, and she assisted on many of Becky Patton's goals.
What you didn't know: "I eventually want to live in Greece."
Caroline Turner
School: Deep Run
Year: Junior
Position: Defender
The skinny: One of the Wildcats' best players in the back, she helped Deep Run battle Mills Godwin for the Colonial District title. She was first-team all-district and all-region and is one of a good group of non-seniors who return next year.
What you didn't know: "I love to sing. I sing all the time. Even on the field."
Ellen Upton
School: Mills Godwin
Year: Sophomore
Position: Midfield
The skinny: Constantly on the move, Upton is a versatile player who can score off set pieces (like she did on a Lumpkin corner kick in the state semifinals). She is strong in the air and defensively as a center mid. Was first-team all-district and all-region for the state runners-up.
What you didn't know: "I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but I consider myself a Virginian."
Becca Wann
School: Cosby
Year: Junior
Position: Midfield
The skinny: Came off an All-Metro basketball season and repeated as a first-team All-Metro pick in soccer. She shared Dominion District player of the year honors with Erin Layne after helping the Titans reach the region semifinals with 16 goals and eight assists. Was first-team all-region and has committed to play soccer at UR.
What you didn't know: "I got my first yellow card [Richmond Destiny game June 25] in my 10 years of playing soccer."
