VIS Girl's Tennis Championship When the Top 2-seeded teams match up in any sport, expect fireworks.

Tied four-all after eight matches, the state title came down to the final doubles match and the Collegiate duo of Hannah Carl and Frankie O'Neill defeated St. Catherine's Charlotte Bemmiss and Ellie Whitlock, 11-9 as the Cougars came away with the 5-4 win and the 2009 VIS State Championship.

It was the sixth title in eight years for Collegiate.

St. Catherine (12-2) took singles win at the 1,3, and 5 spots with Callie Whitlock, Anne Peyton Leitch and Bemmiss defeating Tori Bos, Katherine Saffelle and Ellie Whitlock respectively. Connor Brewer, Anne Paige Lansinger and O'Neill got singles wins for the Cougars. After splitting the doubles, the Cougars (17-2) trailed 7-9 and 15-40 in the final match before rallying to win the match 11-9 and sealing the championship.
