Detroit's Inge has surgery on both knees
DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers all-star third baseman Brandon Inge has undergone surgery on both knees.
The team said yesterday the procedure at the Detroit Medical Center addressed chronic patellar tendinitis, which plagued Inge last season. The procedure Tuesday involved the repair of the patellar tendon in both knees.
The former VCU standout is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in February.
PHILLIES: Center fielder Shane Victorino was in Philadelphia's starting lineup last night for Game 6 of the World Series despite a finger injury. Victorino was struck on his right index finger by a fastball from A.J. Burnett in the first inning of the Phillies' 8-6 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday night. X-rays were negative, but the injury appeared to bother him throughout that game.
DODGERS: Pitcher Vicente Padilla is recovering from a bullet wound in his leg after a target shooting instructor accidentally shot him. He didn't need surgery after spending time at Managua's Metropolitan Hospital in Managua, Nicaragua.
A police spokesman said that Padilla's pistol apparently jammed during a target shooting session late Tuesday.
Padilla handed the pistol to a shooting instructor, a former police captain, who didn't realize there was a bullet in the chamber and shot himself in his hand, Padilla's legal adviser Roberto Calderon told The Associated Press. The bullet also grazed Padilla's leg.
CUBS: Left-hander Ted Lilly had surgery on his left shoulder. Chicago said the arthroscopy and debridement procedure performed Tuesday in Los Angeles revealed no major damage. The Cubs are hoping he can join the rotation sometime in April.
PADRES: Utilityman Edgar Gonzalez to was sent to Triple-A Portland, moving him off the 40-man roster. He is the older brother of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. -- From Wire Reports
