Manley, Rebels foil Tigers

Nathan Manley had 12 kills and nine digs to lead the No. 4 seed Rebels to a hard-fought sweep over the fifth-seeded Tigers in the boys Colonial District tournament quarterfinals at Mills Godwin. Jeremy Wilson added 11 kills, nine digs and three aces. Dylan Mills recorded six kills and nine assists for J.R. Tucker.

Matt Boegner had six kills and seven digs, and Aaron Rebuck contributed 16 assists in Mills Godwin's sweep of Hermitage. The third-seededEagles advanced to the semifinals and will face second-seeded Maggie Walker Governor's School in Wednesday semifinals at Mills Godwin.

Capital District

Quentin Moore and top-seeded Highland Springs were too much for fourth-seeded Hanover in the Capital District semifinals at Highland Springs. Moore finished with 12 kills and six aces. The Springers meet Atlee in the title game. It's the third meeting between the teams. They split the first two.

Second-seeded Atlee swept Lee-Davis in the other semifinal. Justin Crane contributed 30 assists, and Robert Chilcoat delivered 10 kills for the Raiders. Justin Naumann had nine kills for Lee-Davis.

Dominion District

Stephen Cunningham and Ben Morrison each recorded 10 kills as Cosby overcame a first-game loss to defeat Clover Hill in a Dominion District playoff that decided the district champion and the automatic berth in the Central Region tournament that goes with the title.

Clover Hill defeated James River last week in the first match of the three-way playoff.

The victory gave Cosby its second consecutive regular-season title.

Matt White's 13 kills and three digs led Clover Hill, who settle for the second seed in the tournament.

GIRLS

Colonial District

Stefanie Froelich's 30 assists and three aces along with Hannah Grisevich's 12 kills were enough for fifth-seeded J.R. Tucker to win a five-game thriller with No. 4 seed Douglas Freeman in the Colonial District tournament at Hermitage.

Jordan Wootton supported their efforts with eight kills and two digs.

Lauren Schoenborn led Douglas Freeman with 18 kills, six digs and five aces. Summer Hamlin added 15 kills, and Austin Hamlin had 23 digs.

Hermitage advanced with a straight-set victory over Maggie Walker GS. Erin Fitzgerald got 10 kills and Kristi Richardson handed out 21 assists for the Panthers. Sitzgeralz also got six aces and a dig and Richardson added four kills and four blocks.

Meredith Bearden had 10 assists, four digs, two kills and an ace in her last match for the Green Dragons.

J.R. Tucker meets Deep Run, and Hermitage squares off with Mills Godwin in the tournament semifinals.

Dominion District

Valerie Carroll logged 20 kills, 2 blocks and 10 digs to lead Midlothian to victory in the quarterfinals of the Dominion District tournament at L.C. Bird. Becca Tatum contributed 27 assists to the Trojans' effort. Midlothian, the fourth seed, plays top-seeded James River in Wednesday's semifinals.

Kaitlynn Wickersham of Manchester was credited with 16 kills, 13 digs and two blocks in her final match for the Lancers.

Lauren Reichert ran the offense with 23 assists, and Harper Smith recorded 14 kills and 11 digs to lead third-seeded Clover Hill past No. 6 seed Monacan. Jessica Underwood led Monacan with 19 digs and nine kills.

The Cavaliers play No. 2 seed Cosby tomorrow in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.

Capital District

Hanover bounced back from a first-game defeat to sweep the next three from Lee-Davis in the Capital District tournament semifinals. Hanover, the No. 2 seed, got 13 kills and 13 digs from Ryane Majewski and 27 assists from Mallory Moore.

The third-seeded Confederates were led by Jessie Cappello, who had 23 digs and two aces.

Henrico defeated Varina 3-1 in a playoff for the fourth seed in the Capital District tournament, then fell to top-seeded Atlee in straight sets at Atlee.

Katie Norris had 23 assists and four aces, and Hailey Brooks recorded eight kills for the Raiders. Mariellyn Hagy paced Henrico with six kills and 10 digs.
