Charlie Diradour today held a news conference at The Diamond to encourage unity and reception of the new minor league baseball team headed for Richmond.

"We want this to be the most welcoming city that a minor league franchise has ever seen," Diradour said.

Diradour, owner and operator of Lion's Paw Development Company, which owns and manages real estate, also called on the city to contact Opening Day Partners about its plan to transform The Diamond.

Diradour also announced the launch of his new Web site, friendsofrichmondbaseball.com, which encourages fans to get excited about professional baseball in Richmond.

If you want to do something good for the city, dump the diamond (no pun intended) and build the park in Manchester.  Please get a clue people!

Unity in Richmond? That’s an oxymoron. Problem is as long as the city of Richmond continues to fumble key decisions, the counties will want nothing to do with them. Whether this is baseball, roads, mass transit, etc… The city leaders don’t have a clue.

I guess as an 18 year resident of Richmond I am supposed to know who this guy is. I do now——restaurant development. I wonder what axe he has to grind.
Here is the point Mr Diradour——there are a ton of baseball fans that would welcome a team. We, whether we support the Bottom, the Boulevard, Manchester, or wherever, are tired of the complete absence of leadereship regarding this entire episode on the part of the City and the surrounding counties. It is clear that this effort has exposed the faultlines that exist in RIchmond Metro—-the counties, particularly the political leadership, could care less about the City. And the City probably still has no internal capacity for evaulating proposals. Just bring us baseball….in the end, the true fans will come out regardless of site. Just got something done for chrissakes.

This could be good - it’s time for Chuck to start answering the same questions he was asking.  Where’s your financial plan, Charlie?
