NASCAR notes: Earnhardt’s crew chief will return
McGrew will stay with Earnhardt
TALLADEGA, Ala. --Dale Earnhardt Jr. will keep his crew chief next season. Hendrick Motorsports says Lance McGrew will stay with the No. 88 team in 2010.
McGrew took over the job on an interim basis in May when Tony Eury Jr. was fired after a horrendous start to the season.
Team owner Rick Hendrick says he has faith that McGrew can get the No. 88 team turned around. Earnhardt is 24th in the standings, and has two top 10 finishes since McGrew took over.
He's lobbied lately to keep McGrew but has admitted his confidence in himself has been shaken during this slump.
Allmendinger had to take breath test
TALLADEGA, Ala. -- NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger was required to take a breath test before yesterday's practice at Talladega Superspeedway following his arrest on a drunken driving charge.
Allmendinger was arrested by Mooresville (N.C.) police early Thursday morning. He was placed on probation by NASCAR through the end of the season and said he had no problem when series officials asked him to take the test.
Mooresville police said Allmendinger, who drives the No. 44 Dodge for Richard Petty Motorsports, failed a field sobriety test after being pulled over shortly after leaving a bar.
Allmendinger registered 0.08 on the breath test, the police report said. Under North Carolina law, that means his license will be automatically suspended for 30 days.
Wallaces will make history in truck race
Mike Wallace, 50, and Chrissy Wallace, 21, will make history when they become the first father-daughter pair to race in the same NASCAR event this weekend in the Camping World Truck Series today at Talladega.
"She was going to race the race with or without me," Mike said. "There's no gimmicks involved; it's all hardcore racing. But just the honor and the history of being able to be involved with my daughter is a big thing to me."
Memphis track will no longer have races
DOVER, Del. -- Dover Motorsports Inc. is ceasing operations at Memphis Motorsports Park after a deal to sell the track to another investor fell through.
The 0.75-mile track has hosted a NASCAR Nationwide and Truck Series event for the last decade. The Truck Series event will move to Nashville Superspeedway next April and the Nationwide Series event will move to Gateway International Raceway next October. -- From Wire Reports
