Denny Hamlin finally ended his hometown heartache, using another dominant performance to win the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Twice in the past three races here, the Manchester High School graduate had the strongest car before suffering problems. This time, after battling Jeff Gordon for most of the night, he was free of pit mistakes and held off Kurt Busch at the end.

Gordon finished third, followed by Mark Martin and Kyle Busch.

In the race for the 12th and final spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Brian Vickers came on strong to edge Kyle Busch by eight points.

Also earning spots in the Chase were Kurt Busch, Martin, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Juan Pablo Montoya and Greg Biffle.

Tony Stewart, Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Hamlin already had clinched spots.
