RCR shuffling crew chiefs
WELCOME, N.C. - Richard Childress Racing will shuffle two crew chiefs following this weekend's race at Martinsville Speedway. Todd Berrier will take over Jeff Burton's No. 31 team, while Doug Randolph will move to Casey Mears' No. 07 team. The changes begin next week at Talladega Superspeedway.
Childress is continuing to evaluate personnel as he attempts to turn around his organization. All four drivers of his drivers were shut out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship this season.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
UR's Shells on all-league first unit
PHILADELPHIA - The University of Richmond and Dayton were picked to finish in a tie for third in the Atlantic 10 this season, and Spiders junior guard Brittani Shells was named to the preaseason all-league first unit and the all-defensive team in a poll of the league's head coaches. Xavier was favored to win the title, and its junior center, Ta'Shia Phillips, was named preseason player of the year.
SWIMMING
China's Liu sets world mark
JINAN, China - Olympic champion Liu Zige trimmed 1.6 seconds off the world record in the women's 200-meter butterfly at China's National Games. Liu was timed in 2 minutes, 1.81 seconds, domestic news agency Xinhua reported. She eclipsed the previous world mark of 2:03.41 set by Australian Jessicah Schipper at the swimming world championships in July.
Liu, who won the same event at the Beijing Olympics last year to clinch China's only swimming gold medal of the games, won yesterday's race by almost four seconds ahead of Jiao Liuyang, the Olympic silver medalist.
TENNIS
Davydenko, Radwanska toppled
MOSCOW - Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko and third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska were upset in the first round of the Kremlin Cup. Davydenko lost to former top-ranked Marat Safin 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Radwanska was ousted by Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-3.

Wolves waive Reiner
MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Timberwolves waived center Jared Reiner, one day after acquiring another big man in a trade with Dallas. Reiner signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent at the end of September. He became expendable when the Wolves sent a conditional second-round draft pick in 2012 to the Mavericks on Tuesday for Nathan Jawai.
- Orlando reserve center Adonal Foyle underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The team said there's no timetable for Foyle's return, which will depend on how his knee responds to treatment.
- The Atlanta Hawks waived guard Mario West and centers Garret Siler and Courtney Sims. West, from Georgia Tech, played the past two seasons with the Hawks. West averaged 2.2 points in five preseason games. Siler, from Augusta State, appeared in two preseason games. Sims, from Michigan, was chosen MVP of the NBA Development League last season. He averaged 6.4 points in three preseason games.
- Utah cut second-round draft pick Goran Suton and two other players. Suton, Spencer Nelson and Alexander Johnson learned they were cut one week before the season opener at Denver.
- The Phoenix Suns waived guard Dan Dickau and forward Carlos Powell. Dickau and Powell each appeared in five preseason games. Dickau averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 assists. Powell averaged 6.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
- Detroit waived Maceo Baston. The 33-year-old forward averaged 0.5 points, 0.5 rebounds and 3.5 minutes in five preseason games.
ELSEWHERE
- Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has called off his title defense against Paul Williams on Dec. 5 because of an infected left hand. The bout had been scheduled for Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall and Pavlik was expected to begin training this week. The staph infection already pushed back the fight once. Pavlik promoter Top Rank said the fighter had not fully recovered.
- University of Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin, who helped launch a pair of multimillion-dollar renovations to campus facilities and brought in new coaches for the football and men's basketball programs, will retire next year. Martin, 69, will step down effective Sept. 4, 2010, the school said.
- U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf by closing with 5-under 66 to finish five shots ahead of Masters champion Angel Cabrera in Southampton, Bermuda. Glover was tied with British Open champion Stewart Cink when they reached the turn at Port Royal Golf Course. The U.S. Open champion birdied the 10th and 11th, and Cink fell back with bogeys on the next two holes. Glover finished at 11-under 131 and earned $600,000. Cabrera, who won the Grand Slam two years ago, had a 66 and finished at 136. Cink bogeyed the 18th hole for a 70 to finish another shot back at 137. AROUND THE STATE
Old Dominion goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll was selected to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior All-Star Game on Nov. 21 at Wake Forest University. Driscoll leads the CAA this season with 96 saves. - From Staff and Wire Reports
