Chicago Tribune says deal reached to sell Cubs

The Chicago Tribune this afternoon is quoting sources saying the Tribune Co. intends to sell the Chicago Cubs to a family that made its fortune in the online brokerage TD Ameritrade Holding Corp.

The newspaper reported on its Web site that the Tribune Co. has a written agreement to sell the baseball team and other assets to the Ricketts family for about $900 million.

The newspaper quoted sources as saying the deal was reached over the weekend and has been submitted to Major League Baseball for its comments.

The Ricketts family was the winning bidder in an auction the Tribune Co. organized nearly two years ago, but talks have bogged down over a number of issues.

Richmond can’t even support minor league baseball, much less make up their mind about a stadium… Nobody will see a major league franchise here in our lifetime.
