Indoor Football League plans for team in Richmond

The Indoor Football League plans to have a team in Richmond for the 2011 season. SportsQuest has signed a letter of intent to own the team.
SportsQuest president Phil Evans said the possibility of the team playing during the 2010 is “more than tentative.“ The league recently established its headquaters in Richmond.
SportsQuest is a multilevel sports organization with plans to have programs for athletes whose skills range from recreational to the Olympic-level.
In order to have its IFL team ready for the 2010 season, SportsQuest must find an arena. The owners plan to have a 5,000-seat arena built on the SportsQuest campus in Chesterfield County for the 2011 season.
The IFL currently is a 20-team operation—Richmond would be team No. 21—with franchises in locations ranging from Alaska to Maryland and from El Paso, Texas to Rochester, New York.

Bostic and his investors HAD enough money to buy a team, but his investors grew weary of the city’s non-position on the ballpark plans and pulled out in the 12th hour.

metoo- hiring staff is the mayor’s job. operating sports franchises is not the mayor’s job. it isn’t the mayor’s fault Highwoods couldn’t come up with enough money to build a new stadium in the Bottom. neither it his fault that Bostic couldn’t come up with enough money to buy a team.
Didn’t we have an indoor football team several years ago? Clearly it was a big hit the first time around. Just bring back baseball already. Sounds like plenty of teams/clubs are interested. City Council, stop dragging your feet and get a worthwhile proposal under way. I’m glad the mayor has time to hire 3 new people in just as many days, but can’t get a stadium proposal done in the past 3 months. Ridiculous.
I’m all for it as long as they don’t ask the taxpayers to front any money. The only way I would ever agree is if a bond referendum is held and those who WANT to contribute towards the risk, can. Same mentality I had with Richmond’s Shockoe flop. No forcing taxpayers to take risk.
Chesterfield isn’t Richmond. That’s part of the problem with the so-called Richmond Metropolitan area - it isn’t one. The Chesterfield Rednecks has an attractive sound to it . . . though.
Ok, I’ll go ahead… This team won’t last either!!!!! Maybe they can start a debate for the next 10 years on building a new arena downtown. I think the baseball debate has run it’s course.

If SportsQuest can pull off half of its goals, they will be quite a force for sports and recreation in our community. I, for one, am pulling for the velodrome.
Haters, go ahead and mention how Richmond can’t support sports teams. I choose to look on the bright side.
