NEW YORK -- The Rev. Al Sharpton wants the National Football League to block conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh from bidding on the St. Louis Rams.
Sharpton sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today. He said Limbaugh has been divisive and "anti-NFL" in some of his comments.
Limbaugh did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Limbaugh said last week that he is teaming up with St. Louis Blues hockey team owner Dave Checketts in a bid to buy the Rams. He has declined to discuss details of the offer, citing a confidentiality agreement.
In 2003, Limbaugh worked briefly on ESPN's NFL pregame show. He resigned after saying Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.

lakotahope .... very well spoken and your passion really showed, and because of this…. I respect what you have to say.
lakota…I’m one who misread one of your posts about ‘Redneck’ and took a jab at ya’.
My apologies.
I think we agree more than disagree on somethings.
Being a Redskins fan I’ll still trade you Jason Campbell for Romo and it has nothin’ to do with race!I’d just like to win a game.As a matter of fact whose y’alls second string QB.We might even take him instead.
I am tired of supposedly being offended by someone speaking their mind. I am supposed to be offended for the use of Redskins at Washington. Bull****! I don’t like how far this “PC” has drowned out everyone’s ability to be human.
I’m with you on this MrCobray…hate PC people and their Greater than thou perceptions of themselves…
Alas, I can’t take credit for bringing up the use of the word Redneck for a team name. I think it was in response to something I mentioned….Oops!
Everybody who is giving Sharpton words the time of day are falling into his hands and the hands of the media and reinforcing the reason why the media keeps giving him the attention he doesn’t deserve. Bottom line Sharpton has no say its up to the NFL to decide and listening to he commissioner and one of the NFL owners I don’t think they would approve the sale anyway.
I like McNabb at Philly.
However, I am a Cowboys fan….go figure.
Every example that Rush Limbaugh’s critics have offered up have been proven false or taken out of context. They’ve been wholly unpersuasive in making their case that Limbaugh should own a football team.
Frankly, if my two primary critics participated in significant racial hoaxes such as Tawana Brawley and the Duke Lacrosse players, lied about holding MLK, Jr. as he died and fathered a child out of wedlock - I don’t think I’d worry too much.
Al Sharpton should pay his taxes and mind his own business. Rush would make a great “Owner” of an NFL team. The only reason people do not like Rush is because he speaks his mind and tells the truth. People can’t stand the truth.
The NFL doesn’t tolerate clowns? That’s funny, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas owns a piece of the Miami Dophins and Al Davis owns the Oakland Raiders. Kinda puts that theory in the trash can.
The other owners get to vote on accepting a owner to control a franchise. The NFL is a very serious business with very serious business people. No chance will they accept this loud mouthed distraction. It isn’t about Sharpton, it certainly isn’t about Jackson, it isn’t even about McNabb or Rushie’s comments. It’s simply the fact that the NFL does not tolerate clowns. Period.
Who knew that Al Charlatan could have caused such a contriversary over the Hambone word?
Could be that he is trying to raise money to pay his back taxes. Not.
Any money that he gets will go into Al’s pocket. He has made millions in his bogus lawsuits and special interest groups keep bank rolling him.
Back around 1990 he beat a tax evasion rap which he called a government vendetta.
In May 2008, the Associated Press reported that Sharpton and his businesses owed almost $1.5 million in unpaid taxes and penalties. Sharpton owed $931,000 in federal income tax and $366,000 to New York, his for-profit company, Rev. Al Comm., owed another $176,000 to the state.
In 2009 the Federal Election Comm. levied a fine of $285,000 against Sharpton’s 2004 presidential campaign for breaking campaign finance rules during his presidential campaign.
This guy should be in jail.
Are authorites afraid that he would cause the inmates to revolt causing riots, looting and burn down the pentitary if he is procescuted and lands in the pen?
