ATLANTA — The Michael Vick era in Atlanta is officially over.
Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team relinquished its contractual rights to Vick on Friday.
“Michael remains suspended by the NFL,“ Dimitroff said. “However, in the event NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to reinstate Michael, we feel his best opportunity to re-engage his football career would be at another club.“
The move was no surprise. Owner Arthur Blank has said Vick would not return to the Falcons.
Goodell has not committed to reinstating Vick after the quarterback completes his 23-month sentence on July 20 for running a dogfighting ring.

.....datony @ 7:16 pm….You sound more reasonable than lovin so I stand corrected….I went too far…I apologize to you and lovin…..So, I wlll bid you adieux and go on my way…................We might see each other again one afternoon….
ahhh Max61 it is sooo good to hear from you.i cant believe some of the things that you have stated lmao…‘vick ruined himself’,‘vick might play in canada’...if ray lewis can get away with murder, i dont think vick’ll have too hard of a time with the dog fighting bit lol..and how can you come up with the idea that he doesnt have the mental capacity to pull himself out..wtf is that about? lol .. ..you said that you dont thnk that Vick supporters would understand…first of all..im a UVa fan..so i couldn’t stand Vick while he was at Tech lol,but i did admire him as a player…but this post is filled with so many people that have so much hatred towards him and for what? because he commited a crime and was convicted and did his time…you should be angry at the amount of money the federal government spent on the ‘witch hunt’ of michael vick becuz if the truth is to be told, they were looking for drugs..drugs that the co-defendants had and they wanted to tie to michael vick….had he been in a drug enterprise, this would be a totally different discussion, but the fact is, a lot of money was wasted(wonder why we are in a recession huh lol) a lot of money was wasted behind convicting michael vick…that money could’ve been spent towards education, sex offender registery bills….it could’ve been spent where it would’ve done more good…but the point i am trying to get at is that i find it amazing and quite hilarious that there are so many of you ....individuals that just want to hate for something so petty…and you said 75% of the population doesnt like vick..i dont know where you took your poll, but i am sure that it is wrong, the fact that he commanded such a high salary in football along with his endorsements(and he will get them back)more than justifies and validates his ‘likeability’ meter lol..and i am quite sure that you dont represent the majority in your opinion of michal vick…..and while breaking the law may not be acceptable, forgiveness is….no one is perfect..the last perfect man that i knew of left some years ago and we celebrate his birthday on dec 25th…no one is justifying his actions, but there are far more heinous crimes commited that dont receive half of the attention that you have given him…think about it. ....where does my empathy come from ? it comes from the fact that here is a black man, from confederate, colonial va, that is being attacked by a gang of ignorant beings becuz he ‘enterprised’ a dog fighting kennel…..wow…once again, i can think of quite a few crimes that have been commited by members of society, famous members of society that haven’t received half of the attention and none of the hatred that you have directed towards michal vick…where does your hatred stem from? are you really such a die hard fan of dogs? ...or is it some deep seeded psychological hatred that stems from somewhere else? be honest..you hating on the brotha becuz he is black, was getting paid, made a mistake and is gonna get paid again lol….im sure you are one of those that got mad when o.j. was found not guilty of murder too lol lmao…..you are really making a mountain out of a molehill and anyone with just a tad bit of intelligence can see that…too bad you cant…my suggestion to those people that admonishing vick? ...get over it
....datony @ 5:13 am….....Well, it would be easy to just return your attack of words…..But to tell the truth, I don’t think Vick supporters would/will ever understand…..And I don’t say that to be ugly…..No matter how these discussions go, and they all go the same way, on all the different web sits across the net, the Vick supporters present the same image, everytime…..Michael Vick did a whole list of bad things…..Morally, Ethically, and Legally…....75% of the population does not like Vick…..25%, your group, likes Vick…....Vick will never be accepted again in society…...All those 75% have their reasons, either the Legal infractions, or the Ethical infractions,or the Moral infractions…..With 306 million in the US, most don’t even know who or what Vick is…..So, no matter how many write about Vick, it still will be 75% against…...That being said, what does that mean?......Most people who read all the things Vick did, from A to Z, end with the same thoughts…..Morally and Ethically and Legally….breaking the laws of society is not accepted by most people…...Is that saying that Vick supporters accept infractions of the law?.......Maybe ask yourself where does your particular empathy come from?....What makes you like Vick?....Have you truly read enough of the data, such as some legal text, some newspapers, some magazines, some web sites, to see a more complete picture?.......Vick crossed a line few men ever do, and most people cannot stomach all that Vick did and why he did it…........Vick may play in Canada one day, but Vick ruined himself and never knew why….I don’t think he has the mental capacity to ever pull himself out, of who he is…..Not everyone in life is on the same level…..Vick had it all and wasted it, and did some very bad things along the way…...My suggestion to Vick supporters is to read a broader selection of books and broaden your view of the world and life…..
obxgirl?Richmond4real?R?Somegeye?Max61?TheGoodShepherd?and Kant Saey? you are all a bunch of miserable people and i am sure that there are a few that i missed lol lmao..how can you be so pathetic….seriously.you have so much animosity towards this man..i would really love to know the true source of your discontent..come one..be honest.lol…i know that there are others reading these posts and wondering wtf is their problem lol and Kant Seay….you said he had his 15 mins of fame? lol…it ain’t over yet lol…and for those of you that continue to admonish the NFL for hiring felons….where is all of this angst towards many of the corporate entities that hire felons as well? UPS has quite a few sex offenders employed…do you you have the same fervor..the same amount of passion towards them that you have demonstrated towards michael vick and his ‘awful’behavior? ...look folks..itz done and guess what? he will be playing for a team soon lol..thank god none of you are football fans lol
Had Mr. Vick murdered a person or persons, he would not be getting this amount of ink. He has lost everything, been sentance, and served time in jail, what more do people want from him? Everyone deserves a second chance, he should be allowed to play.
Folks should leave him alone.
Robo (also a dog owner).
hooray for michael vick….i know that he was waiting for this news for awhile…now he can sign with another team..i hope we signs with the cowboys and i know that they will pay him a good amount of money..between that and his endorsement..and he will receive them once he starts playing..he will be back on the road to recovery..i wish him all the best..
lovin’: we are not trying to make vick into a monster, he did that himself. He’s a worthless piece of garbage, he’ll get his in he**, you can be sure of that. People like you are the reason why if it was between a dog’s life and yours, I’d choose the dog’s any day!
I don’t care anymore. This has gotten as boring as Bret Favre and his “will he retire or won’t he retire” nonsense.
Good! Michael Vick was picked up and hurled to the ground by the Atlanta Falcons. How appropriate!
Let Vick take that $10/hour job he was offered. Let him remember what could have been except for his depraved enjoyment of watching others suffer.
I don’t want to see Vick suffer. I only want to not watch him on TV anymore. He had his ‘15 minutes’ he disgraced himself and that’s that. The ‘Vicks’ are so over!
Max61, actually I am laughing at how upset some are getting on these posts. Its not at all that serious to me, but I read very well and I am far from naive. I still DON’T agree with you. So you feel the need to insult my intelligence? The rest of the world IS NOT WRONG, just people that think ridiculous thoughts like YOU!!! :)
