ATLANTA — The Michael Vick era in Atlanta is officially over.

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team relinquished its contractual rights to Vick on Friday.

“Michael remains suspended by the NFL,“ Dimitroff said. “However, in the event NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to reinstate Michael, we feel his best opportunity to re-engage his football career would be at another club.“

The move was no surprise. Owner Arthur Blank has said Vick would not return to the Falcons.

Goodell has not committed to reinstating Vick after the quarterback completes his 23-month sentence on July 20 for running a dogfighting ring.

Ummm…lovin…I think that you may want to consider the FACT that the reason he is being let go from the Falcons is directly related to the dogfighting. I’m not really sure where that disconnect is happening for you, but please stop and think for a moment and I think you’ll agree with me there. In addition you should consider that if these dogs were “on their last legs and wouldn’t have done much good being kept alive “, it was a direct result of what these folks did to them. It’s not like they just saw some old dog walking down the street and though, “Aww poor thing, we should put it out of it’s misery.“ He used these animals, got his jollies from watching them harm each other, and then had them killed when they couldn’t do what he wanted anymore. I think there’s something just not clicking here for you and you really need to think about this situation for awhile and realize the gravity of what happened.

And B, while I agree that if we’re going to eat animals they should be treated with respect and put down in as humane a manner as possible, it’s not even in the same ballpark as torturing dogs for fun. Same goes for hunting, not even close. I guess I just don’t run in the “helicopter hunting” circles though, so honestly I’m not sure what that’s all about.

.......lovin @ 12:56 pm…...I started not to even fool with this, but just so you would know, at least a little something…..There are other web sites with several photos of Vick and his children…....Yes, Vick has three children by two different women, he hasn’t decided to marry yet….....The three children are in the photo with Vick and the two girls might be 5/6 and the little boy looks 7/8?......Anyway, since you do not understand how any one could be,“hurt” by Vick’s activities, there is no need for further discussion…...Since Vick “served” the time, (slight that it was)...that means nothing except wasted time and life…..Serving the time does not have entitilments attached to the end of such time…..Serving the time is just that, nothing more…...“Deserving” means to “earn”, to “warrant”.....To do something of value and receive something of value, in return…...There-in lies Vick’s problem…..Vick does not have the time to “earn” reinstatement…..You do not get the golden ring just because you showed up…..You have to “earn” it, THEN get the golden ring…(reinstatement)....

Why is it that people have so many negative things to say about vick killing these dogs, YET the majority of you all probably eat meat.  Have you ever seen how horrifying it is when they kill a cow, yet you dont try to arrest your butcher.  I know what he did was wrong, but LET IT GO! He served his time.  PLUS none of you all have anything negative to say about the European’s that shoot live animals with high powered riffles from helicopters and have it televised.  I know Europesn’s that take their children hunting with them almost every weekend. (But that is considered to be bonding)  If hunting is a sport, why isnt dog fighting?

dogtired - I also find comfort that Vick will find his just reward. Amen.

The NFL should have a policy barring all felons from playing football.
Clean up their act and set the example for our children.  Felon = no football.
(Same for baseball, etc.)

dogtired, are those 3 things fact? Or could there be an exception, like you said, if they are trained to fight??? Well I’m sure that the dogs were trained to fight before they came to the big fights, LIKE BOXERS, and the best man won. Now once the dogs were beaten badly, is when they were killed off. I’m sure none of the HEALTHY animals were “put to sleep”. And maybe you didn’t see my prev post or it could have even gotten erased (cuz of the hurt feelings), but I don’t KILL OR HURT animals. As I stated before, I couldn’t even find it in me to roll over a turtle in the road for fear of killing him. Please don’t try and analyze me….I doubt him killed animals for fun. It just came along w/the “sport”....

Actually somegeye, the story is about Vick being let go from Atlanta, not about him being a dogfighter!!! So get your facts straight. And yes, I’m sure they were restrained while being killed but again, they were probably on their last legs and wouldn’t have done much good being kept alive so it was sort of a way out of the misery, don’t you think? LOL. But anyway, you are right about him playing again. If the fans want him, he will return and i’ll be willing to bet he still has a GANG of fans out there! Go VICK!!! :)

Lovin. An animal, any animal, fights for one of three reasons, protecting their young, self defense and their role in the pack or pride. Animals, like humans, have to be trained to fight in an enclosed space. “They were old and beat up.“ So their punishment was a slow death by drowning. I bet you are the type of person who wouold put kittens or puppies in a burlap sack and throw them in a like or river.
They say there is a special place in hades for people who are cruel or klll animals for fun. I believe this and find comfort in the fact that Vick will find his just reward.

I think you’ll find that the folks here that are ragging(?) on Vick are doing so becuase he’s the one that the above story is about. Make sense?
They can hold their own? I feel pretty positive that when the dogs were drowned or otherwise tortured it wasn’t after a one-on-one may the best man win fight. They were surely restrained in some way. Sound right? Regarding the “it’s OK because they probably liked it defense”. I can’t even begin to describe to you how many ways that is wrong. Besides that, I’m positive they didn’t like being killed. As far as Mr. Vick and the NFL goes, that will really come down to the fans. If people care enough about what he did to not want to go see a game he’s playing in the NFL won’t take him back. If he stays in good enough shape to keep playing at the level he was at, and people will pay to see him there’s no doubt that after a time someone will be able to hire him.

There is no doubt that what Michael Vick did was wrong. There is no doubt that Michael Vick served the sentence that the legal system in the United States deemed appropriate. If you are saying that Vick should not be allowed to try to play in the NFL again, then you are saying that any person convicted of any crime should never be given a second chance. If you are never going to give a person a second chance, then not even God will help you.

He did the crime, and he paid his time.
