Nike: No endorsement deal with Vick
Published: October 1, 2009
Nike says it does not have a “contractual relationship” with Michael Vick, a day after the quarterback’s agent announced a deal with the manufacturer.
In a statement released Thursday morning, Nike says it has “agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike.“
On Wednesday, Michael Principe, the managing director of BEST, the agency that represents Vick, announced the Philadelphia Eagles player had a new deal with Nike during a panel discussion at the Sports Sponsorship Symposium.
Vick’s agent, Joel Segal, did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.
Nike, which signed Vick as a rookie in 2001, terminated his contract in August 2007 after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

Just to be clear, you’re cool with Nike’s use of Asian sweatshops and kids working for pennys, inhaling toxic glue among others things. But, if they put a Nike t-shirt on Vick, you’re done with Nike. Is that about right?
Mike is going to be alright the deals will come, for one customer Nike loses they will probably gain two ,good luck to Mike and are ya ready for some football .
I think Nike went about this too fast in trying to resign Vick. They need to wait a few more months when the media starts losing interest in reporting everything that Vick does. Once that happens they should be able to sign him to deal without any fuss.
No Nike for me as long as it is associated in any way, shape or form with this thug.
Looks like Nike pulled a quick about-face. I suspect that there is a deal, but this might not be the right time to release the information. Remember, Kobe was put on the shelf with Nike after the rape case and they slowly integrated him back in the scheme of things, which is what I suspect they will do with Vick. Obviously they want him wearing their products or they would not give them to him. It is a clever way of associating Vick with Nike, which will generate sales, they just have to be politically correct about it.
