Michael Vick’s lawyers say a new bankruptcy plan gives creditors more of his future earnings.

NORFOLK — Suspended NFL Star Michael Vick is leaving a job with a Virginia construction company to work with youngsters at Boys & Girls Clubs.
Steven Kast, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, says Vick will be working with children on health and fitness activities at several clubs in the Hampton Roads area. Vick was a regular at the Boys & Girls Club in Newport News as a youngster.
Vick needed a job to meet the conditions of his probation and had been working as a $10-an-hour laborer.
Vick, whose lawyers were in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk on Tuesday, is in house arrest for the last two months of a nearly two-year sentence for operating a dogfighting ring.
His lawyers say a new bankruptcy plan gives creditors more of his future earnings.

So should murderers work at the morgue, funeral parlor, or clean up grave yards? Every crime can not be punished with the thought of an eye for an eye.
Convicted felons typically have a harder time finding employment which says to me Vick is NOT being treated equally. I would bet the Boys&Girls;Club (great org, have done volunteer work there) have job applications from people that were qualified but couldn’t be hired b/c of previous convictions. How many jobs working with children can convicted felons get? Not many…
I agree Vick should be required to work like everyone else but if he really wants to make a difference then he should VOLUNTEER somewhere like the Boy & Girls Club. I agree with earlier post, he should be required to work in a animal shleter or animal rehab place.
V or R get over yourself…you condescending snide worm. You have something to say, go ahead and say it. Put down the thesaurus and put in your two cents about the issue in the article.
It is a BIG deal to show them how to throw a football to the child that does not have a father figure in their household. It is a BIG deal to show them how to work as a team. The money that “common folk” used to make signs for Vick to go to jail could have been donated to a food bank, homeless, or any charity. I have been at my job for 21 years and feel i have the “right” to be there, i have given my blood, sweat, and tears and then some. Life is too short, have some compassion for others.
I’ve never encountered such blemish free, perfect citizens, forgiving souls, objective thinkers as I have while reading these entries. So many above reproach individuals must feel like misfits among the common folk.
This is bs. If he wants to show remorse he needs to volunteer at the animal shelter, working with people to rehab hurt animals, cleaning cages, etc. To directly engage those he hurt.
Granted for the average person working at Boy/Girls club is hard-work but Vick will not “dig in”, he will simply do minimal work to make it look like he has changed.
What does “working with children on health and fitness activities” mean anyways….playing catch with kids…big deal. For all of you appeasers out there….this has nothing to do with “paying your dues”. He has done that…he can go get a job at Walmart, Exxon, or the construction company he worked for.
What a lot of people dont understand, playing in the NFL is not a RIGHT….it’s a PRIVILEGE!!! Just like you dont have the right to work at your company. I hope Goodell sees through this farce and bans him. Let him work like the rest of us.
I applaud this decision. Mr. Vick deserves a chance as he has paid in time served and money for his crime. We should not hold him to a higher standard than others or a lesser. I think that this is an appropriate job for him. Time and time again, whenever the topic Vick comes up people over-react because it was dogs. This does not mean that he did not do a terrible crime but in relation to others in the NFL that have killed people it is skewed.

I volunteered for 7 yrs & have worked for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond. It is a real “job” to be responsible for someone else’s children contrary to what JohnThomas thinks. It is not easy and he wouldnt last a day working with the inner city youth of today. Volunteer for a week and then you can talk about whether or not it is a real “job” or not. You wouldn’t last a day. The Boys & Girls Club is not “using” Vick, it is a win win situation for both. obxgirl with your attitude, i hope that you will NEVER need the services of a Boys & Girls Club. It’s almost impossible to find a program for children ages 6-18 for $10 per school year which includes a hot meal from the food bank. Instead of giving your two cents worth, give your time, volunteer.
Lets face it. He took this B&G “job” to try and make it look like he is showing remorse so he can get back in the league. Reports are saying the Goodell is not going to let him back in unless he can prove himself. His handlers obviously worked to get him this so-called “job” as pure spin
You’d think that after two years in jail and enough public humiliation for two lifetimes, people would find it in their hearts to at least partially forgive this guy! There are convicted child rapists who have had lighter sentences than Vick, yet some of you are still calling for his head.
I doubt he left the construction labor job because it was “too much” for him considering he’s a world class athlete and manual labor is in essence what he does as a career football player. I know this may be too much for some of you to comprehend, but I’m guessing he took the job at the B&G club because as a prior attendee, he knows first hand how much of a POSITIVE impact he can have on these kids’ lives in a very short amount of time.
I hope he gets a second chance in the league because he has more than paid his dues for running a dogfighting ring. To my knowledge no humans were ever hurt due to any of his actions, which is more than a lot of professional athletes who are still competing today can say.
