Rollins’ goal lifts Gades in overtime

Geoff Rollins' second goal of the game at 2:42 of overtime gave the Richmond Renegades a 6-5 victory over Knoxville last night in Knoxville, Tenn.

Despite being outshot 48-26, the Renegades (19-15-1) knocked off the first-place Ice Bears (21-8-5. Richmond has gone 7-2-1 on the road since starting the season with an 0-6 record away from home.

Goaltender Ryan Person made 43 saves for the Renegades in picking up his first win since joining the team last month.

Richmond is 3-1 in OT games and beat the Ice Bears in an extra session here Dec. 26.

Justin Joy's 10th and 11th goals gave Richmond a 2-0 lead a little more than 14 minutes into the game.

Matt Larke assisted on both of the scores and had three helpers in the game.

After Knoxville cut the advantage in half, Mike O'Sullivan put the Renegades up 3-1, with assists from Bill Zalba and Dennis Sicard at 16:54.

The Ice Bears scored twice in the first six minutes of the second period to draw even, before Beau McLaughlin gave Richmond a 4-3 edge at 10:29.

Twenty-seven seconds later, Knoxville tied it on Mike Carter's second goal of the period.

Rollins, off an assist from Joy, put the Renegades back on top at 8:40 of the third, only to see the Ice Bears get the equalizer on Carter's third goal of the evening.
