Renegades rally for victory

Defenseman Dan Vandermeer scored two goals, and the Richmond Renegades rallied to defeat the Fayetteville Fire Antz 5-4 in a Southern Pro Hockey League exhibition game before 3,292 at the Coliseum last night.

Ryan Busby assisted on each of Vandermeer's goals, which came with 4:30 left in the second period and 13 seconds into the start of the third and helped the Renegades overcome a 3-1 deficit.

Ryan Senft played 31 minutes, allowing three goals on 15 shots. Pierre Girouard came in for the remainder and turned aside 14 of 15 shots. The only goal surrendered by Girouard came with 18 seconds left after Fayetteville pulled its goalie for an extra skater.

Richmond's final exhibition game is today at Knoxville at 5 p.m. Opening night is Friday, when the Renegades face the Twin City Cyclones at the Colisuem. Fayetteville will be in town the next night.
