The Richmond Renegades almost climbed out of a deep hole last night before losing to Twin City 5-4 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Trailing 5-0 late in the second period, the Renegades scored late in the frame and added three goals in the third but it wasn't enough to prevent their third straight loss.
Defenseman Dan Vandermeer had a goal and two assists for Richmond, and Beau McLaughlin added a goal and an assist. Geoff Rollins had two assists.
Richmond (19-18-1) came into the game one man short and lost three more players to game misconducts during a second-period brawl. The Renegades finished with 12 skaters.
The Cyclones scored twice in less than two minutes early in the opening period, and Michael Richard's second goal of the frame made it 3-0.
Twin City increased the margin to 5-0 in the first nine minutes of the second period before Richmond managed to get on the board with R.C. Lyke's third goal of the season with 1:23 left.
