VCU recruit Eblen asks for release

»  Comments | Post a Comment

New Virginia Commonwealth University basketball coach Shaka Smart said that highly rated recruit Ben Eblen has asked to be released from his letter of intent.

Eblen, a senior point guard at Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla., was recruited by former VCU coach Anthony Grant. Eblen signed to play for the Rams in the fall.

He said he chose VCU because of the relationship he established with Grant and his staff.

Grant left to become Alabama's coach, and Smart was hired three weeks ago to replace him. With the coaching change, Eblen wants to explore his options, Smart said.
