Handle Armanti Edwards. Appalachian's 6-0, 184-pound senior QB is the first player in Division I history (FCS or FBS) with 9,000 career passing yards and 4,000 career rushing yards. He is one of three finalists for the Payton Award, which goes to the FCS' top player. He won it last year. No player has won two Payton Awards (23 years).
Make the Mountaineers turn it over. ASU committed seven turnovers when it lost 33-13 to UR last season. The Mountaineers led 7-6 at halftime, then turned it over on their first three possessions of the second half, including a pair of interceptions the Spiders returned inside ASU's 5-yard line. The Mountaineers committed five turnovers in last Saturday's first-round 20-13 win over S.C. State.
Avoid special-teams issues. UR has experienced problems with snaps on punts and PAT attempts, though there has been improvement. Kicker Andrew Howard has hit four of his past five field goal tries, including a game-winner from 48 yards vs. William and Mary. But before that, he missed five of six. Howard is 2 of 5 from 30-39 yards, and 4 of 7 from 40-49 yards.
