RWGA qualifying: pairings and tee times

Five former champions, including four-time winners Boodie McGurn and Natalie Easterly, head a field of 59 in this week's 82nd annual Richmond Women's Golf Association city amateur tournament at Salisbury Country Club.

McGurn and Easterly appear to share the favorite's role in the absence of Kristine Rohrbaugh, the reigning champion. Rohrbaugh, a rising sophomore at William and Mary, is competing in the women's Eastern Amateur at Wintergreen.

McGurn, a Country Club of Virginia member, finished as the runner-up at last week's Virginia State Golf Association senior women's stroke play championship at the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Cub in Virginia Beach. She delivered a 36-hole score of 144, 4-over par, but was beaten by Linda DiVall on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Easterly, also from CCV, tied for third at 144.

Other former winners in this week's field include Maggie Balch (Hermitage), Lindsay Wortham (CCV) and Nancy Williams (CCV). Balch defeated McGurn in the title match when the RWGA tournament last visited Salisbury in 1997.

The tournament will be played on Salisbury's Huguenot and Buckingham nines (5,500 yards, par 72). Tomorrow's 18-hole medal-play qualifying round will be followed by four rounds of match play. -- Vic Dorr Jr.
