PITTSBURGH -- Matthew Delicate scored a pair of goals, his sixth and seventh of the season, to carry the Richmond Kickers to a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in last night's USL-2 soccer match at Edinboro University.
The Kickers (5-2-5) concluded their month-long road trip on an encouraging note when Delicate scored in the 33rd minute off an assist from Gerson dos Santos to break a 1-1 tie.
Delicate began the scoring in the 6th minute, but Randolph Jerome replied for the Riverhounds in the 21st. Jerome's goal was Pittsburgh's first since June 11.
Richmond's first goal was decorated with ribbon and wrapping paper. Miscommunication between Pittsburgh goalkeeper Danny Waltman and a Riverhounds defender created a situation in which Waltman attempted to play -- and then fumbled -- a cross from Adrian Bumbut. Delicate, lurking nearby, punched the loose ball into the goal from five yards away.
The game-winner was set in motion by Mike Burke's corner kick. Dos Santos won the ball in the air and headed it to Delicate, who was waiting on the doorstep.
Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale contributed five saves to Richmond's victory.
The Kickers, who last played a home match June 6, will return to UR Stadium on July 4, for a 1 p.m. date with the Charlotte Eagles.
