Mark Martin will start on the pole in Saturday night's Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway, followed by Martin Truex Jr. and Chesterfield native Denny Hamlin.
"I thought we had a lot left in our car, so I was pretty excited," Hamlin said. "I feel like with the momentum we have going into this weekend alone, we'll go into the Chase with some positive momentum regardless. So a win would really have us puffing our chest out pretty big."
Truex said that mid-afternoon changes to his car helped propel him into the first row. Martin will likely take the outside position when the green flag drops. Rounding out the top five are Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne.
Watching the bubble drivers, Greg Biffle is 24th, Matt Kenseth qualified 28th, Brian Vickers is sixth and Kyle Bush will start eighth.
