HARRISONBURG -- A federal judge has rejected a sports advocacy group's request to reinstate 10 teams at James Madison University that the school eliminated in 2007.
An attorney for Equity in Athletics says the group will ask the court to reconsider U.S. District Court Judge Glen Conrad's decision.
Conrad ruled last week that the group had failed to prove the cuts were illegal.
JMU officials declined to comment on the case.
JMU announced in 2006 that it was cutting seven men's teams and three women's teams to comply with a federal law requiring equality in men's and women's intercollegiate sports. The teams included men's and women's archery, men's indoor and outdoor track and women's gymnastics.
