Ryan Heins scored in the 19th minute and added an assist late in the match as the Richmond Kickers defeated the Wilmington Hammerheads 2-0 in a USL PRO contest Wednesday night at Legion Stadium in front of 3,700.
The Kickers trail Wilmington by three points for second place in the Atlantic Division but can overtake the Hammerheads with a weekend sweep of the Los Angeles Blues. Richmond will travel to the Blues for matches Friday and Sunday.
Leading by one in the second half, the Kickers (12-7-3) got an insurance goal from Matthew Delicate, who scored his 10th goal of the season, with 16 minutes remaining off an assist from Heins.
The Hammerheads (13-7-3) lost for the first time in five contests and suffered only their third loss at home.
