Tests done Monday on Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan showed no new heart problems for the Hall of Fame pitcher, who was hospitalized after experiencing discomfort over the weekend.

Ryan, 64, "continues to improve," the Rangers said in a statement. He is expected to be released from a Houston hospital in a day or two.

Ryan has a pre-existing heart condition that will continue being treated with medication, according to the team's statement. He had a double-bypass operation in 2000 and has a family history of heart disease.

He sought treatment after experiencing discomfort Sunday morning while at his home in Georgetown, Texas.

Ryan had been expected to join the Rangers in Anaheim, Calif., tonight for the start of a three-game series. He was scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and to take part in a ceremony inducting Gene Autry, the Angels' late owner, into the team's Hall of Fame.

Heat issues for fans at game in Minnesota

Hot, steamy weather caused problems for some fans attending the first game of Monday's Cleveland-Minnesota doubleheader at Target Field.

Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says at least a couple dozen people needed to be treated at the ballpark for heat ailments, and a few were taken to a hospital. But Smith says there were no serious problems.

The temperature at first pitch was 90 degrees.

Ortiz, Gregg begin serving suspensions

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz and Baltimore Orioles closer Kevin Gregg began three-day suspensions Monday after having their four-game suspensions reduced following an appeal.

Both players will sit out the entire series between Baltimore and Boston that runs through Wednesday.

ORIOLES: J.J. Hardy signed a contract extension through 2014 that guarantees him $22.25 million over three additional seasons.

INDIANS: Center fielder Grady Sizemore was placed back on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right knee. It's his third stint on the DL this season.

MARLINS: Florida outfielder Chris Coghlan had a setback in his rehab assignment with Double-A Jacksonville. The 2009 NL Rookie of the Year will stop playing games for now while receiving treatment on his troublesome left knee.

YANKEES: New York infielder Ramiro Pena had an appendectomy Monday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
