Big Ten football coaches, including Wisconsin's Bret Bielema (above), accused Ohio State coach Urban Meyer of using unethical and illegal recruiting tactics, including flipping recruits who had made verbal commitments elsewhere. Meyer responded that none of his tactics was illegal or unethical. Meanwhile, A&E found an idea for its newest television show.
2. Josh HamiltonThe Texas Rangers slugger, who was banned from baseball in 2003 for drug and alcohol use, admitted to relapsing this week. Hamilton called it a "moment of weakness" and apologized at a Friday news conference.
3. Cuban, CarlisleMavericks owner Mark Cuban was fined $75,000 by the NBA for criticizing the officiating after Wednesday's loss to Oklahoma. Strangely, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle was fined only $35,000, and he actually kicked a basketball into the stands during the same game. "I think it's fair," Carlisle said in the understatement of the week.
4. CougarsCorner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, was given the chance to pick its new mascot. Students voted and selected the Cougars, the same mascot as BYU. There was only one problem: School officials decided Cougars might be offensive to middle-aged women, so they changed the name to Chargers. Better to be safe than sorry?
